Week 11:Work Plan

The time frame allocated for this development project is 26 weeks (not including semester break, revision week and exam week). it have started in September 2013 and will be completed before in May 2014. The Gantt chart for the project and it milestone are shown as in two table below which is table 8.1 for FYP 1 and table 8.2 for FYP 2.

Week 10:FYP Presentation

During this week, I had to present my project’s proposal in front my assessors. It have been up and down for me during the Q & A section but overall I felt I manage to done a fantastic job. My assessors for my proposal presentation are Madam Mazhaniza Binti Muzamil and Madam Nor Khairiah Bt Ibrahim.

Week 9: Benefits Expectations

The  benefits expectations of this project is :

·        Improve security system to a better level by avoiding unauthorized access.

·        Reduce cost compare to product in markets nowadays that most of it using punch card system.

·        It will improve employee discipline and punctuality due of the time attendance system will calculate the actual access time

·        No more lazy excuse and buddy punching as fingerprint pattern must be the user himself.

Week 8: Flow Chart

Figure 4.2 :Operation’s Flow Chart

By referring to the flow chart above ,the project starts with password pattern recognition then the thumbprint device to recognize the thumbprint identification. The devices will send the gathered information to the software for identification purpose. After that, the develop software will analyze the data received either it match or unmatched with the data in the storage.Data storage have been store some of the user’s thumbprint pattern. The time entry will be save in the data storage after the user’s entry. In case the information matched with the data, it will give the authorize people to access the system.Otherwise, if the information is incorrect, the alarm will trigger and the security guard will be notice to take some action.

Week 7: Methodology Of The Project

Figure 4.1 Block Diagram Of The System

In the block diagram above, it show the description or device that to be use in this project. Basically, only the thumbprint scanner is hardware. The rest is a software that will be develop on the Matlab. The input will be the password pattern and fingerprint scanner and on the output will declare whether the access grant or deny. The real access time also will be record and save. The data storage contain a memory of authorized fingerprint pattern and time access data. Most  important part which is the main control will be program by using Matlab software.

Week 6: Literature Review

Security system is the system that provides a degree of protection against danger, damages, loss and crimes. It is a structure and process that gives or improves security as a condition. This system has to be compared to related concepts that are safety, continuity and reliability.

From the research that have been done on system that using biometric, there are several previous system can be references to this project

  • Vigilance readerTA880E

It is a electronic lock using number pin and fingerprint recognition system which set of IN-OUT fingerprint reader using fingerprint identification and designed for door access and time attendance system simultaneously. The readers can be installed in a standalone and networked environment, depending on the need of a client. It possesses features that are beneficial to an institution which include fast verification method, easy enrollment, identification, multiple fingers enrollment and flexible finger placement.

This existed project is best example as reference for the Development of Fingerprint Image Processing Recognition because both system flowcharts have several similarities such as using fingerprint pattern including password as verification and access with time attendance system process. but both also have the differences shown in table below

Vigilance Reader TA880E
Development Of Fingerprint Image Processing Recognition
Develop in C++ language
(using Linux operating system)
Develop in Matlab programming software
Build for a commercial market
Build for study propose
The installation of the hardware can be anywhere near entrance
No installation of hardware because almost all of the system using software

  • DSP Using Voice Recognition

This project describes the methods used to create a voice recognition system. The methods used were divided into two parts, which are feature extraction and feature matching. In the feature extraction, MFCC method hasbeen applied to identify the characteristics of the voice signal. While in the feature matching, the output resulting from the MFCC will be used by DTW to compare and to minimize the distance of MFCC at each point. K-NNclassification method has been used to determine which one gives the most highest and maximum score for the word said by the speaker. Finally, GUI has been designed as a unit system for voice recognition.

Week 5: Objectives Of The Project

The research study of this project is to provide the opportunity for student to apply and integrate the theoretical knowledge and principles taught in the course in solving technical problem. The main purposes of the research and will demonstrate the improvement of identification access with the objective of this project are:

·         To develop a thumbprint image processing identification access system is reliability estimation techniques by considering the type of access system.

·        To build and develop protective new stage of access system using MATLAB software and GUI display.

·        To propose reliability methods to improve the type of access for security system and attendance system.
